What We Do
Mental Health Maintenance
You might be wondering what exactly Mental Health Maintenance is…well just imagine going to the gym to get your body into better health and shape, that’s exactly what mental health maintenance is all about but for your mind. It's about talking to a therapist or joining a mindfulness course to get your mind into better health and shape with the overall aim of boosting your resilience and wellbeing.
Did you know that therapy isn't just for when you're really struggling?
Therapy is also great for when you're wanting to give your mind some TLC, or when you fancy boosting your happiness levels. You can think of talking therapy like taking vitamins, the best kind of self-care, it can help keep you in tip top condition or give you a little pick-me-up. At Mindful CBT we believe in looking after your mental health, everyday and always, not just when things aren't good.
Mental Health Maintenance is for everyone, and there's no time like the present to give your mind the tender loving care it deserves.
We've got the ingredients of exactly how to maintain your mental health and we want to share this with you so you can start your wellness journey today.
Hi, I'm Natalie, the Founder of Mindful CBT.
Therapy and mindfulness are the most helpful things you can do for your mind and overall wellbeing, and I've come to this conclusion not only from witnessing the transformation of hundreds of my clients but also from my own personal experiences as a human!
That's why I wanted to create a space that offers both of these magical things in one place. Whether you want to have quality therapy with a qualified therapist, or you want to learn mindfulness from an experienced teacher, both of these things are open to you at Mindful CBT.
I'm a big believer in taking a modern approach to our mental health. So yes, absolutely do have therapy if you're struggling with your mental health (that's why we specialise in CBT as it's the number one therapy for anxiety and depression), but why not also try therapy or mindfulness to help boost your mental health or as an act of self-care... Go from feeling fine to feeling fabulous. That's why I've created flexible mental health maintenance sessions here at Mindful CBT too.
We're here for you if you need - therapy for anxiety and depression, mindfulness to help you find your balance, or mental health maintenance to empower you to become the best version of you - with a big sprinkling of compassion on top.
When I'm not in the therapy room I'm usually talking all things wellness and helping to raise awareness around common mental health problems on social media. And when I'm not doing that I'm usually cuddling my dog!
My Qualifications & Training
I began my journey to becoming a therapist with a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in Psychology at Newcastle University. My dissertation explored Obsessive Compulsive Disorder under the supervision of world renowned CBT expert Professor Mark Freeston.
I then went on to complete a 2 year Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at the University of Hertfordshire.
Following this I decided to complete another 2 year Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Children and Young People at UCL and the Anna Freud National Centre.
Having fell in love with mindfulness I decided to complete my Mindfulness Teacher training at the prestigious Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice with Bangor University.
I have also undertaken further training in Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Group Therapy, and Long Term Health Conditions.
My Experience & Background
I have been practising as a CBT Therapist for nearly a decade now, and during this time I have worked with children, young people and adults. I am fully BABCP accredited, and I have also achieved BABCP supervisor accreditation.
Most of my time working within mental health has been in the NHS, with 3 years spent as a Senior Therapist & Manager for a London IAPT service and more recently now also working as a Deputy Clinical Lead for Hertfordshire IAPT service. In these roles I have worked with clients with mild to severe common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, body dysmorphic disorder, and health anxiety, and I have also supervised many trainee, qualified, and senior CBT Therapists.
Whilst I mainly work with clients on an individual basis, I also have significant experiences of facilitating therapy groups including delivering 8 week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) courses within NHS services. My group work with clients has also included developing and delivering bespoke workshops for both the NHS and private businesses.
Alongside my therapeutic experiences I have also developed and delivered training to other mental health professionals both within and outside of the NHS. And more recently I have enjoyed contributing to the media through writing and radio, sharing psycho-education and wellness tips as well as helping to reduce mental health stigma.
My Special Interests
I can work with all the issues and mental health problems mentioned here.
My special interests include working with clients who are experiencing perfectionism, low self-esteem, generalised anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and social anxiety disorder.
I definitely have a soft spot for working with young people. And hopefully I'm in a unique position to help as it wasn't that long ago that I was a young person myself but I've still managed to squeeze in a decade of experience as a therapist.
I love working with woman. I understand the sorts of pressures that come with being a women (/ trying to be a superwoman), and I'm all about women supporting women.
And lastly it's worth mentioning that I'm not afraid to work with clients who have tried therapy before that hasn't worked. Together we'll find a way to get you feeling better!
